We had plans to go into Paris today as it was my Mom's last day available, but a Metro strike made the task just a little too daunting. I rely heavily on the Metro. I do a lot of walking too, but I never use buses or taxis. I like to keep it simple. So when the Metro has problems, I have problems.
We decided to stay around Saint-Nom and avoid adding necessary stress. One of the 3 restaurants in my town is a creperie and I've always wanted to try it, but it's a little too pricey for a no reason lunch. We both got savory crepes over sweet. We were going to get a dessert one too but the portions were so huge, there was no way to justify it.
After lunch we drove to the next town over that has the big super market and shopping mall. We bought enough Diet Coke to last me most of my trip and a couple other things that were greatly appreciated. If I am able to start driving the car soon, it will be an easy thing for me to do during the week, but the train doesn't go to that town. So close, and yet so far. And close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.
The parents worked it out so we could head out a little early. I let the Kid go with his sister to soccer practice and we headed out a little after 7pm. It was supposed to be a 2.25 hour drive, but with traffic and dinner, we didn't arrive at the B&B in Vaux until after 10:30. For dinner, since we were running behind, we stopped at cafeteria like diner at one of the rest stops. The restaurant was built over the highway, connecting the two rest stops. Pretty cool view.
The B&B was very cute and quaint. With a long day tomorrow though, we called it a night pretty soon after arriving.
