French Word of The Day

I have decided to add a word of the day into the blog. Since being here, I speak in a sort of frenglish. When I was home, I threw in French words, at least to myself, all the time. So here, it's less weird, but I think my family finds me odd. Apparently one of their previous au pairs never tried any French for fear of embarrassment. But we all know I have no shame, so fear not. I will practice my french with reckless abandon.

On to the point. I will write a word, and it's meaning, of either a word I liked the sound of or just a word I feel like writing about. To start. I will give you my two favorite words from when I was little. I took French lessons in New Jersey, and these two words always made me smile. If you go to this link and type in the word, google will pronounce it for you, so then maybe you can understand why I like them. Trying to teach some of you pronunciation over the computer is just too daunting a task to comprehend.

Les Haricots Verts. Grean beans. This word is the root of the cajun Zydeco, somehow. I think if  you say it fast, and maybe if youve been drinking, but it still seems like a stretch.

Grenouille, or frog. No interesting history, but I used to love it. So there ya go.
